Announcing Juggle Palm Springs!
Juggle Palm Springs has been a long time in the making–5 years, in fact! It was five years ago that Juggle Co-founder, Annie Arthur, took a trip there with her two young children. Wanting to enjoy a kid-free night on the town with her husband, she enlisted the help of a desert city staple, Desert Super Sitters, to find her an experienced caregiver. She kept in touch over the years and used their services on multiple occasions during visits to the area, a Juggle founder-favorite.
Desert Super Sitters was founded 10 years ago by Christina Ellwood, who began her childcare journey in 1997 when she was invited by her church to become a preschool teacher for a class of three year old children. In her first year, she discovered she had a natural gift for teaching and a passion for children. She went on to obtain a degree in Early Care and Education, studying many different educational philosophies throughout Seattle, Washington and California. Christina went on to hold professional educational positions including co-directing a local preschool and owning Organic Childcare. When she realized there was a real need in the desert cities for on-demand, experienced sitters to service local and visiting families staying in area hotels, she put her background to work and built her business to provide services to Palm Springs and the surrounding communities of Rancho Mirage, Thousand Palms, Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, Palm Desert, Indian Wells and Indio.
So, how do you operate a business in Palm Springs from Ohio? Juggle is lucky to have Desert Super Sitters’ Afia Oti Atakorah stay on to recruit more amazing area sitters, to transition DSS users over to the Juggle app, and to grow the business built by Christina with the technology created by the Juggle founders.
Afia was born in Ghana, Africa and after living in London most of her life, moved to the US in 2005 to live with a host family. Afia has degrees in Social and Behavioral Science and Early Childhood Education. She brings her own childcare experience, having started babysitting at age 15, taking care of her younger cousins. Afia realized her passion for childcare while taking care of two adorable twin boys, who were children of her host family, from ages 2 months to 10 years.
Afia joined DSS in 2012 as a sitter and in late 2015 was hired to be in charge of handling bookings and reservations, managing sitters and facilitating event bookings.
Juggle can’t wait to help busy families in the desert cities to live their best lives by connecting them to the area’s most educated, energetic and experienced sitters. Palm Springs is just the start of Juggle SoCal, our bags are packed and we’re ready to roll!
